SWON is an art and design group that creates sculptural glass and lighting installations that blur the lines between art and design. The group broke the rules of artistic conformity in the early 90's by setting up exterior guerilla art installations outside of the formal arts and gallery system. The artwork grew out of the need to create and use large architectural environments as a canvas for neon lighting installations.
SWON has been involved in public and private art installations as well as commercial design projects in North America and Europe for over 12 years and has developed a reputation as one of North Americas most avant-garde glass groups.
SWON has over 20 years of experience in glass blowing, cast glass, neon lighting and industrial design. Our aim is to create sculptural glass and lighting environments that are unique and original.
The challenge is to push the envelope of sculptural designed glass to a higher level, whether it be a cast glass wall or hand glass light installation. The experience must leave the audience with a feeling of awe and enchantment.
Andrey Berezowsky is an artist and designer whose experience extends over some thirty years. His background includes furniture and industrial design, stained glass, as well as glass blowing. Andrey worked in Germany for five years with some of Europe's finest glass and neon artists and has developed a knowledge of materials and process that has allowed him to work in a multitude of mediums. His work is a balance of highly refined skill and aesthetic beauty.
Michael Batchelor worked as an assignment photographer for 17 years with a studio in Montreal and Toronto. He has worked for some of the top advertising and design firms in North America and has shot many award winning advertising campaigns. He has been involved in the film industry, and has worked as a design and communications director for the firm Sonnet Media. He brings to the group an in depth knowledge of design, marketing and product development.
